Sat., Oct. 13: Hawk watch at Rocky Ridge County Park. Meet at the hawk watch platform at 9 AM .Raptor guide Randy Phillips will be there. 9 AM—12 noon.
Sat., Nov. 3: York Audubon’s Annual Bird Seed Pick-up Day. 9:00—3:00. at Record Club of America, Manchester, PA. Coordinator: Dick Humbert 717-968-5036.
Mon. Nov. 12: Tom Smith, President of PA Vector Control Association and the administrator of York County’s West Nile Virus program, offers “Dare 2 B Tick Aware” Learn about ticks, tick borne diseases, prevention, symptoms, treatment, etc. Luther Memorial Church. Time: 7:00 P.M.
Mon., Dec 10: Our much admired and long-time friend, Scott Weidensaul presents “A Galaxy of Falcons” Each year, what may be the largest gathering of raptors on the planet ~a million Amur falcons~ assembles in the remote mountains of N.E. India, a spectacle unknown to the outside world until a few years ago. Scott will discuss his 2017 expedition to Nagaland to document this stunning phenomenon, and the astonishing conservation saga that surrounds it. Luther Memorial Church, 7:00 P.M.
Sat., Dec. 15: York Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count. Join in the fun! All are welcome to participate in this Nationwide event. Coordinator: Bernie Frick 717-843-6675. (Alternate date in case of foul weather is Sat., Jan. 5.)
Wed., Dec. 27: Third Annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids at Nixon County Park. . Register at Nixon County Park 717-428-1961. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 9:00 to 11:30 A.M.
Mon., Jan. 14: Join York Audubon Society board members Alice and Bernie Frick as they share photos and stories of 12 days of “Birding Tanzania” . Luther Memorial Church, Time: 7:00 P.M..
Sat., Jan. 19: Trip to Gettysburg National Battlefield for our annual Winter Wildlife Watching tour with licensed guide Dave Weaver. Coordinator: Tish Swam 717-235-2578. Meet inside the Visitors’ Center at 12:45 for the 1:00 P.M. tour. Fee required. Inclement weather date is Jan. 26..
Mon., Feb. 11: Talented Hanover photographer Bob Anderhalt presents, “The Birds of Magee Marsh: My 100 Best Photographs”. WOW!!!!!!!!! Luther Memorial Church, Time: 7:00P P.M.
Mon., Mar. 11: York Audubon Society member and Penn State Master Gardener Alice Simmons presents “Attracting Birds With Native Plants”, describing why native plants are important in creating a bird-friendly environment. Luther Memorial Church, Time: 7:00 P.M.
Sat., Apr. 7: Annual York Audubon Society Banquet at East Berlin Area Community Center, 405 North Avenue, East Berlin, PA 17316. Come early for silent auction, raffle and 50/50. Dinner served at 6:00 P.M. Afterwards, professional photography instructor Sean Quintilian presents: “The Egret and the Water Droplets; the Photographic Journey of Sean Quintilian.” He has gathered images from all over North America for 30 years, honing his skills as a nature photographer. He will take us on a journey of learning and mistakes to capture the perfect image. Cost: $24 per person. (The dinner will be just $20 for those who reserve by March 28.) Thurs., Apr. 25: Join Carolyn Mathur near the Lake Redman boardwalk on Ironstone Hill Road for “The Big Sit”. It’s similar to a tailgate party for birders as we tally bird species while snacking. We sit in a circle facing outward toward the water, the woodland and the wetland,. Starts at 7 A.M. Bring binoculars, a chair and snacks. Arrive when you want. Stay as long as you want. . Thurs. May 2: Warbler watch at Rocky Ridge County Park to look for these migrating feathered jewels. Leader: Alice Frick 717-843-6675. Bring binoculars, chair and field guide. Meet at 7:30 A.M. at the first parking lot.
Wed.— Sat., May 8—11: Bus trip to Ohio’s Magee Marsh for the annual “Biggest Week in American Birding”. This is YOUR chance to see warblers, shorebirds and plenty of birders from all over!! Mon., May 13: Join educator, naturalist and photographer Tony “Doc” Schoch for a presentation about the other winged beauties titled “Damsels and Dragons—Flies, that is!” Learn about their anatomy, life cycle, identification as well as tips on photographing these amazing creatures. Sat., June 8: Annual York Audubon Society Picnic . All are welcome to join us at William Kain Park’s Muskie Pavilion at 12 noon. Bring a covered dish to share, a plate and your utensils. Don’t forget your binoculars.
